Aung Myo Hlaing is another AMEP success story at Laverton Community Education Centre.

Arriving in Australia with his family on a Humanitarian visa in 2022, Aung enrolled in the AMEP to study English, an essential step toward integrating into Australian society. Recognising the significance of becoming self-reliant and overcoming language barriers, he eagerly embraced the challenge of improving his English language skills and building his confidence. His determination to enhance his reading, writing, and speaking abilities was matched only by his desire to thrive in his adopted homeland.

After several months, Aung Myo Hlaing’s growing confidence empowered him to take the next step: enrolling in CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support. Reflecting on his journey, he admitted that the initial assessments posed a challenge. However, as he diligently pursued his AMEP English studies while also studying Individual Support, he was able to navigate and excel in the course’s requirements.

Having successfully completed his Certificate III in Individual Support, Aung has now commenced work in home-based disability support – a sector with current skill shortages.While working he continues to work on English language skills as a part-time AMEP student.
