GET READY FOR SCHOOL – A PROGRAM FOR PARENTS OF KINDERGARTEN CHILDREN WITH ADDITIONAL NEEDS

Dr Jane Hickey - facilitator of Get Ready for School

We are very pleased to have Dr Jane Hickey from Victoria University (pictured) as the facilitator for Get Ready for School in 2024.

Get Ready for School is a program where parents of kinder children with additional needs prepare for transition to school. The program uses a Learning Circle approach. This allows the participants to decide the topics and skills that are most important to them. They may include

  • strategies to support your child in school
  • disability support systems in Victorian schools
  • special schools and mainstream schools
  • advocating for your child in a school setting
  • parent and carer networks and support services
  • parental wellbeing and looking after yourself.

… whatever is most important for you and your learning circle colleagues.

Workshop will be conducted once a month on Wednesdays from 6.00pm-8.00 pm at the Laverton Community Children’s Centre, 15 Crown St Laverton, beginning in May. Childcare will provided on site for each session with qualified staff (and food).

Moving from kinder to school is a big step in the lives of children and parents. And it can seem even bigger if your child has additional needs. Sor egister online for Get Ready for School here  https://forms.office.com/r/E1yfbf3VR8
