LETTERS FROM LAVERTON

Letters from Laverton is an exciting local history project focusing on the old Laverton village around the Lohse St/Woods St area. We have been delivering our Stepping Forward to Independence at Woods St Arts Space for many years and so we are very keen to support this project. Bron and Alan are undertaking the research which is funded by a Make it Happen grant from Hobsons Bay City Council. They want to talk with anyone who has lived or worked in the area or has memories of growing up in Laverton. They can be contacted at admin@neworldarts.net
This image is of the State Bank branch. Opening in March 1967, the State Bank was the original tenant at 18 Lohse Street and was one of the longest running continuous businesses to operate in the Laverton Village. Formed in Victoria in 1842, the State Bank was the flagship bank of the Victorian Government until it was purchased by the Commonwealth Bank in 1990.
